River otters are extremely secretive and very wary of us humans, especially folk out and about with 2 border collies. So although we have often seen otters in the sea lochs along the west coast of Scotland, we have only rarely caught a glimpse of the otters that live on “our stretch” of the river Monnow here at Little Trewern.
But we know they are active because we sometimes hear their calls (like a whistle) at night, and occasionally we find their spraint on the rocks along the edge of the river.
However, with a little help from our neighbours and some clever modern technology, we are able to watch them foraging along the river banks in the dark!
