“So we’ll stoke the fire and light the lamp
Turn our backs in from the damp
Settle down beneath the starry sky
Endure the winter passing by”.
Winter Song by Emily Smith
Here on the eastern slopes of the Brecon Beacons, we feel each season keenly, for we spend many of our days outside, working in the woods and fields, or walking in the hills. But winter, for all its wild winds and driven cold, is nonetheless a wonderful season to enjoy a romantic break.
So if you come on a Romantic Winter Break at Little Trewern you can lie in bed and watch as the sun rises, washing the Black Hill and The Darrens in rose hues. And although darkness falls early, on a clear night the heavens glow with the constellations, for hereabouts there is no artificial light to pollute the sky.
A Romantic Break in winter also means fabulous views. From the Offa’s Dyke footpath, which you can see from your bedroom window, and which marks the border between England and Wales, you have wonderful views west into the Brecon Beacons and south towards the Severn Estuary, as well as east across the plains of Herefordshire and Shropshire.
And when the snow falls, the whole of the Olchon Valley and the eastern escarpments of the Black Hills can easily be confused with a the French Alps!
But the greatest pleasure in winter is to return home, kick off your boots and winter gear, jump into a hot bath, then relax by a roaring log fire, before settling down to a beautifully cooked evening meal, with some fine wines to wash it down.
So that’s exactly what we put at the heart of a Romantic Winter Break at Little Trewern!
At Little Trewern, a 2 day winter break for two, which includes dinner, bed, breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea on both days, costs just £350.00, based on two sharing the double room. You will be our only guests!
“In winter with warm tears I’ll melt the snow
And keep eternal spring-time on thy face”.
